I have always believed that the outdoors is a great place for Eva to hone in her development skills – one great bonus is that most of the time, it’s free. While a lot of my Asian counterparts would shun public places for a variety of reasons ranging from logistics to superstition, I for one, take her out regularly. She is often with me while I run my errands or just doing my regular window shopping and then there are the evening walks around our area.
This weekend, since my mother-in-law and her hubby is down from France together with my parents, we thought we might make a trip to the Singapore Zoo. Although I have been there before and thoroughly enjoyed myself, I was a bit hesitant about bringing her there mainly because I thought she might not appreciate the trip. I turned out to be pleasantly wrong about it. Despite the bleak weather forecast of afternoon rain, we went there at mid-morning after breakfast near our place. Eva managed to get a nap squeezed in during our cab ride but once we were there, she was all eyes and ears!
Singapore Zoo is a rather stroller and baby-friendly place and while you can rent strollers there together with pull wagons, we brought ours as well as my trusty Pupsik pouch. At the entrance while Nil and my step-father-in-law went to get the tickets, I set about babywearing her in the kangaroo carry. I find that it’s great for letting a baby get a better glimpse of the world around her. We were first greeted with some very cute tamarinds, to which, Eva proceeded to stop gnawing on her fingers and just stare. She continued to be very “into” the whole zoo thing at the subsequent displays, taking great interest in creatures at their display’s viewing galleries. We only stopped for a feed at the baboon display after which she started looking a little sleepy.
So it was off into the stroller for a short nap and after about 30 to 45 minutes, she woke up with a smile, had her diaper changed and off into the pouch she went again. At the squirrel display, she went nuts trying to keep up with speeding creatures on their toes as they ran around the display trying to play catch with each other. By the end of our trip there – we spent close to 5 hours at the zoo – she was all pooped out and fell asleep after her “lunch” and stayed asleep until we were halfway home.
Needless to say, we all had a great time there and I do believe she did as well. More pictures and a review on the Zoo to come up soon!

Totally agree with you! I encourage outdoor activities for my kids since they are babies, not just for developmental purposes but because it is part and parcel of a healthy lifestyle. Children who love outdoors grow up to be adults who love outdoors and thus lesser time spent indoors in inactive lifestyles (eg: computer games, tv etc). Inactive lifestyle is the bane to a healthy life.

Hi Mabel,
Nice to hear from you back. Btw, I am having a hard time trying to login to your blog and also send a reply. My initial couple of reply was being swept off and took me a few days later before i can send u this reply. Past few days whenever i hit the send, it kept saying “IE cannot be found”… will try my luck again and see will it go thur this time.
I did went into youtube to teach me how to TIE Ring Sling, i roughly knw but still didnt master v well. As for positioning, no i have not.. i will go check that out. :P
I am also a SAHM and learning every bits of motherhood each day, knowing more mothers help to exchange knowledges and share tips and advice..
Another thing, i was jus wondering what camera are you using to snap Eva. It look very nicely done. Whenever i shot my boy, it is always the same old style, the same old backdrop.. kinda of boring.
By the way, can the ring sling do what u did on your pupsik on above?
Eva looks very happy enjoying herself there. Good idea to use the pupsik but since i’ve the ring sling and if it can hv the same functions, that will be great.
Cheers,
Diana

It’s probably a cookie or connection issue – sometimes it gets a little bit berserk. Can’t really tell you what to do as I’m not a tech-savvy person. Sometimes I swear, my laptop hates me to bits!
Yup, you can wear your baby in the kangaroo manner with the ring sling as well. Try checking out this link for instructions on other positions – http://www.momsinmind.com.sg/demo.html#slingusage
I’m using a Canon Powershot A75 – old but still not too bad.
